Virginie Marchal is a policy analyst at the Environment directorate of the OECD since 2010. In this role, her work areas include climate policies, green finance and investment policies and low-carbon infrastructure (renewable energy, sustainable mobility, climate-smart agriculture and green cities).
In 2014-15 she has worked on the project Aligning Policies for a Low-carbon Economy in co-operation with the International Energy Agency (IEA), the International Transport Forum and the Nuclear Energy Agency, for the 2015 OECD Ministerial Council Meeting. Previous contributions at the OECD include Cities and Climate change (OECD, 2010), the OECD Environmental outlook to 2050: the cost of inaction – climate change (OECD, 2012), Towards a green investment policy framework (Corfee-Morlot et al., 2012), Mobilising investment in sustainable mobility (Ang and Marchal, 2012).
Prior to her position at the OECD, Virginie hold several positions in the oil and gas industry: strategy adviser on Africa, Asia and Latin America for BP Biofuels in London, cost controller for Total Gas Argentina, retail territory manager for Total France. She also collaborated during her studies with IDDRI (International institute on sustainable development and international relations, a Paris-based think-tank) and the European Climate Foundation.
Virginie holds a management degree from Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales (HEC, Paris) and a Master of Public Affairs from Sciences-Po Paris (Sustainable Development).
