
Woon Joo serves as a Senior Associate in Partnership and Communication at the Global Green Growth Institute. She is based in GGGI HQ (Seoul). She is supporting the "Green Rehabilitation Investment Project for Karakalpakstan Republic to Address Impacts of the Aral Sea Crisis (2021-2024)" in the Uzbekistan Country Office and works as a team member of the Korea Liaison Unit (KLU).
She holds an MSc of Environmental Protection and Management and MA(Hons) of Geography with Environmental Studies both from the University of Edinburgh. Her thesis was based on assessing the impact of land use/land cover change (LULC) on the environmental flows of a paddy dominant agricultural watershed during drought by using a semi-distributed watershed model. Prior to GGGI, she worked with Land and Water Environment Research Division of the Korea Environment Institute, where she was involved in the implementation of the Industrial Emissions Directive in South Korea. She also worked as a research scientist at a watershed modeling consulting company, Hydrocore, participating in various public sector projects including the management of diffuse pollution load and analysis on the impact of climate change on the hydrology in a watershed.
