Dr. Xin Zhou is the Leader of Green Economy Area and a Principal Policy Researcher at the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), Japan. Her background has more than 20 years of experience in the field of environmental policy analysis, including nearly 10 years working with IGES on sustainability policy-making in developing countries particularly in Asia and the Pacific. In her current role, she is leading an extensive array of policy research projects on the indicators of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), indicators for the National Green Development Policy in Mongolia, green investment and green jobs assessment in collaboration with UNEP and ILO, integrated assessment of water-energy-food nexus, policy impact assessment of carbon tax and the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) and the development of low-carbon energy scenario simulation tool. She received her Ph.D. degree in environmental studies from the Nagoya University, Japan. Trained as a mathematician, environmental scientist and environmental economist, her work combines environmental science, economic theories and modelling techniques for practical and integrated policy assessment. Prior to joining IGES in 2007, she had been working with the Policy Research Center for Environment and Economy (PRCEE), an environmental think tank under the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MOEP), China, since 1991 and her final position was the Director of Policy Research Division. She has more than 100 publications featured in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, working papers, research reports, technical reports, newspaper articles, and tool development. She won a number of awards recognizing her academic and social contributions both in Japan and in China including several prizes for distinguished national achievements in science and environmental fields.
