This restructuring of the Andhra Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project for India is undertaken to reflect the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh into the States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. This bifurcation includes division of the Project between the two States, division of the project targets between the two States, revision of some of the indicators and clarification of the implementation responsibilities in each State. All activities to be carried out by both States will remain under the original project. The name of the project is to be changed to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project. Due to creation of two separate states, there will be two separate Implementing Agencies (Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Departments in both the states) for the project and separate State level Project Support Units. The rest of the institutional structure (i.e., District Project Support Units) will remain the same as original, but will be in two different states now.
