GGGI Colombia - Amazon Vision

Recognizing the importance of its forest resources to national development, the Government of Colombia (GoC) has set a goal to achieve zero net deforestation by 2020. GGGI is helping the GoC to achieve this sustainable, low-carbon growth goal through the Amazon Vision project. Developed and implemented in partnership with the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development (MADS), the project is:

  • Establishing international partnerships to strengthen the maintenance of forests
  • Promoting the adoption of green growth policies in the forestry sector
  • Establishing Amazon Vision as an umbrella policy to align efforts towards low-deforestation development in the region
  • Formulating investment plans to financial contributors that will fund activities designed to address deforestation drivers
  • Identifying appropriate financial mechanisms to manage received financial contribution practices from other countries and organizations

The overall objectives of this project are to address deforestation drivers while enhancing development opportunities in the Amazon region and support the establishment and implementation of a financing mechanism and governance scheme that will consolidate all international and national financing directed towards these activities.
