GGGI Philippines - Climate Resilient and Inclusive Green Growth for Poor Rural Communities: Accelerating Implementation in the Agriculture Value Chain

GGGI Philippines is implementing the Climate Resilient and Inclusive Green Growth for Poor Rural Communities: Accelerating Implementation in the Agriculture Value Chain in the province of Oriental Mindoro to strengthen the adaptive capacity of rural communities and micro-enterprises against climate change impacts and support capacity development of government and non-government stakeholders to design and implement climate resilient green growth initiatives.

The agriculture sector in the Province of Oriental Mindoro has a strong potential to drive economic growth in the MIMAROPA region, which is envisioned to be the food basket of the country. However, this potential is not maximized due to vulnerabilities related to climate change and the limited capacity of farmers, farmer groups, and micro-enterprises in the sector to enhance their productivity.

In order to address the challenges, the project will implement the following:

  • develop climate vulnerability and risk information system (CVRIS) in Oriental Mindoro, and implement evidence-based policies enhancing climate resilience and productivity of the agriculture value chain;
  • provide direct PP&E (Property, Plant, and Equipment) investment in and technical assistance for five micro-enterprises (processing calamansi, virgin coconut oil, seaweed, and banana);
  • establish a new Provincial Agriculture Center, which will nurture locally grown farmer entrepreneurs, while enhancing capacity of stakeholders, aligned with Greenpreneurs initiative; and
  • form a Private Sector Advisory Group (PSAG) that will be designed and developed to leverage best practices and know-hows of leading firms in the agricultural sector, notably both in the Philippines and Republic of Korea, thus enhancing capacity of stakeholders.
