The Government of Vietnam recognizes that to achieve the sustainable development goals identified in its “National Strategy on Green Growth for the period 2011- 2020 with vision to 2050”, modernizing the Mekong Delta’s agricultural production and water resource management systems will be critical. In support of this goal, GGGI has partnered with the Vietnam National Mekong Committee (VNMC) to implement the Water and Green Growth Mekong Delta project, which is:
- Promoting the inclusion of green growth principles within the development context of the Mekong Delta
- Supporting VNMC and relevant ministries to design green growth water-sector policies
- Identifying possible green growth intervention opportunities and developing appropriate policy recommendations
- Developing water thematic knowledge-sharing practices and platforms engaging local, regional, and global stakeholders
- Raising awareness among institutional stakeholders on water and green growth issues
The ojectives of the project are to support the implementation of water sector green growth policies for the Mekong Delta and to develop water green growth awareness and buy-in among government officials and relevant stakeholders.
