Green Economy Initiative - Mozambique

Organisation :

The current project is building on the Green Economy Initiative which is undertaken by UNEP and MICOA. The project will contribute to stimulate investment and policy initiatives that promote green economy in Mozambique. By doing this, it will enhance and support the existing and future national programmes on Sustainable Development, Climate Change and sustainable energy production.

On December 19th, 2013, the Ministry of Coordination of Environmental Action of Mozambique (MICOA) organized , in Maputo, a one day Green Economy workshop with the support of UNEP, UNDP and WWF. This workshop aimed at disseminating the Green Economy Action Plan recently adopted by the cabinet (on October 15th, 2013). A UNEP expert conducted a capacity building session in the afternoon during which he explained the green economy concept to government stakeholders. This workshop was also the occasion to launch the UNEP's led green economy assessment that will assess the macroeconomic, social and environmental benefits of the policies and investments of the Green Economy Action Plan in selected sectors and prioritize them in view of their implementation.
