PROADAPT: Building climate resilience in MSMEs in Latin America and the Caribbean

Organisation :
Nordic Development Fund (NDF), Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)

PROADAPT was launched in 2013 by the Inter-American Development Bank in partnership with the Nordic Development Fund to increase the climate resilience of micro, small, and medium-sized (MSME) companies and the local communities in which they operate, while also looking for new business opportunities for MSMEs in the region. The project will develop practical business models and tools to help MSMEs and their framework institutions anticipate and prepare for climate-related threats to their assets, value chains, and local communities, to become more climate-resilient and to exploit business opportunities in specific sectors. A number of pilot projects will be implemented to demonstrate the climate resilience and business opportunities. A substantial part of the pilot projects will focus on women-owned or managed MSMEs.

PROADAPT will have four main components:
1) Development of Climate Adaptation Actions Plans;
2) Development of business models for building climate resilience;
3) Pilot projects for MSME climate resilience and related business opportunities; and
4) Knowledge management and dissemination.

The total cost of the project will be EUR 8.75 million, of which NDF will provide EUR 3.50 million, IDB EUR 3.70 million, and local financing EUR 1.55 million.
