The objective of the additional financing for the First Phase of Sindh Water Sector Improvement Project for Pakistan is to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of irrigation water distribution in Ghotki Area Water Board (AWB), Nara AWB, and Left Bank AWB, all in the Province of Sindh, particularly with respect to measures of reliability, equity and user satisfaction. The proposed additional financing will continue IDA support to the GoSindhs efforts to achieve the objective. It will finance the costs associated with improving the irrigation system including key hydraulic infrastructure works, main and branch canals, and distributaries and minors that were covered in the original project but cannot not be undertaken because of the cost escalations and subsequent shortage of funds.
