This year’s edition of the Global Status Report for Buildings and Construction finds that in 2020, the global buildings and construction sector accounted for 36% of global final energy consumption and 37% of energy-related carbon emissions. To accelerate the decarbonization of the sector, the report functions as a global tool that tracks the progress made in the sector’s transition to an energy-efficient and resilient roadmap.
The research evaluates the global status of the sector, detailing the wide-ranging implications of COVID-19 on demand, labour supply and emissions. This is followed by an analysis on the sector’s investment and financing options, particularly in response to pandemic recovery plans.
Case studies and existing frameworks are outlined to further advance the need for a restructuring of buildings and construction policies, encouraging stakeholders to collectively strive toward their Paris Agreement goals and responsibilities.
