This report is the fifth compilation of the SDG7 Policy Briefs compiled by the SDG7 Technical Advisory Group (SDG7 TAG). The briefs are released annually in support of the deliberations at the High-level Political Forum, contributing also to the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, and the implementation of the Decade of Action to deliver the SDGs and the UN Decade of Sustainable Energy for All 2014-2024.
This year, the advisory group specifically examined the data available and potential indicators to measure the role that energy plays in education (SDG4), gender equality (SDG5) and sustainable land use (SDG15).
The key messages for policymakers in this report are:
- Efforts must be drastically stepped up or the achievement of SDG7 will slip out of reach.
- A holistic framework is required to address the interlinkages of energy with other SDGs, including a set of indicators and reliable data.
- Regional priorities must be addressed to accelerate just, inclusive, and equitable energy transitions.
