Adaptation Gap Report 2022: Too Little, Too Slow

Adaptation Gap Report 2022

Climate change is landing blow after blow upon humanity and the planet, an onslaught that will only intensify in the coming years even if the world begins to bring down greenhouse gas emissions.

This report looks at progress in planning, financing and implementing adaptation actions. It calls for countries to step up funding and implementation of adaptation actions. Additionally, it discusses adaptation effectiveness and looks at adaptation-mitigation linkages and co-benefits.

The report finds that global efforts in adaptation continue to make incremental progress, but fail to keep pace with increasing climate risks. More than eight out of 10 countries now have at least one national adaptation planning instrument, and they are getting better and becoming more inclusive of disadvantaged groups. However, the adaptation finance gap in developing countries is likely five to 10 times greater than current international adaptation finance flows and continues to widen. Adaptation implementation is increasing, but not keeping up with climate impacts.
