Climate Change 2021: the Physical Science Basis

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) prepares comprehensive assessment reports about knowledge on climate change, its causes, potential impacts and response options. The IPCC is now in its sixth assessment cycle, in which the IPCC is producing the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) with contributions by its three working groups.

This report by Working Group I addresses the most up-to-date physical understanding of the climate system and climate change, bringing together the latest advances in climate science, and combining multiple lines of evidence from paleoclimate, observations, process understanding, and global and regional climate simulations.

The IPCC assessments provide a scientific basis for governments at all levels to develop climate-related policies, and they underlie negotiations at the UN Climate Conference – the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
