Proponents of nature-based solutions highlight the opportunity to make better use of limited resources to address different challenges at the same time, delivering benefits for people and ecosystems simultaneously.
Many countries, particularly those across the Global South, however, are constrained by limited financial resources in tackling poverty, promoting broad and sustainable socio-economic development, responding to the other impacts and costs associated with climate change, and protecting and restoring the health of natural ecosystems.
This paper assesses the scale of funding for NbS to climate change aimed at developing countries, analysing the effectiveness of the provided funding. Although, an accurate assessment of development finance flows is difficult to achieve, showcasing the variation in flows helps policymakers reach a better understanding of financing gaps and effectiveness.
