The Circularity Gap Report: The Netherlands

Organisation:

The Netherlands has ambitious goals for circularity, including an economy that is 50 percent circular by 2030 and 100 percent circular by 2050. This report recommends a wide range of ways in which the economy can pivot away from its linear habits across four key sectors: agriculture, construction, manufacturing, and energy

To boost its circularity, the Netherlands has explored four explorative “what-if” scenarios that can partially transform the economy to become less reliant on linear processes:

  • Advanced construction practices;
  • Circular agriculture and food system;
  • Shifting from fossil fuels to renewable sources; and
  • Repair, remanufacturing, and high-value recycling.
