The City-Industry-Climate Nexus

By 2050, nearly two-thirds of the global population will live in cities, which already account for most energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. Urban areas are therefore pivotal to both the causes of climate change and its solutions. 

This white paper frames urban decarbonization as a strategic industrial agenda, introducing the “city–industry–climate nexus” where infrastructure, production systems, value chains and climate action converge. 

It calls for municipal finance reform, market incentives, green public procurement and innovation ecosystems, with strong support for MSMEs, start-ups and green skills to drive local transformation.
