Closing the Loop: Transforming urban waste systems and protecting Brazil’s rivers

This report examines how Brazil’s cities can transform waste collection and recycling systems to reduce plastic pollution and protect rivers and ecosystems. 

It presents a shared vision for stronger urban waste systems and the actions needed to enable the transition to a circular economy, where materials remain in use rather than becoming waste. 

The report highlights gaps and opportunities in collection and recycling infrastructure and outlines actions for policymakers, municipalities, businesses, waste picker organisations, financial institutions and philanthropies.
