Clothing the Footwear Loop

With 23.8 billion pairs of shoes produced annually, complex multi-material designs and limited end-of-life infrastructure mean that around 90% of footwear ends up in landfill. 

The Closing the Footwear Loop initiative helps build the foundations for footwear circularity by mapping European footwear waste streams and developing a roadmap for circular design focused on durability, repairability and recyclability. 

It will also test innovative end-of-use solutions through pilots and impact assessments, helping accelerate the transition to a circular footwear system.
