International carbon trading under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement offers the opportunity for countries to cooperate for the purpose of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in a more cost-efficient manner.
Following the completion of the Article 6 rulebook at COP26 in 2022, GGGI undertook an extensive consultation process in order to identify the needs of interested countries to participate, and better understand the potential role GGGI could play in scaling up Article 6 trading readiness across its members and partner countries
This technical report presents GGGI’s and its members’ experiences in Article 6 engagement, explores the needs and barriers to meaningful, equitable participation in carbon markets, and offers a solution through an innovative new GGGI initiative the Carbon Transaction Platform (CTP).
