Enhancing Regional Mining Ecosystems in the European Union: Securing the green transition and supply of mineral raw materials

This report explores how regions across the EU can play a bigger role in securing a stable and sustainable supply of critical raw materials vital for the EU’s green transition, energy security and competitiveness.

It focuses on 10 regions in Finland, Greece, Portugal, Spain and Sweden that have strong mining potential and innovative local efforts. These places are home to important mineral deposits, research centres and community-driven mining strategies. 

The report looks at what is working, what challenges remain and what can be done to improve. It covers key areas like permitting, infrastructure, skills, governance and circular economy initiatives.
