Gender Ambition in Climate Policies: An application of the gender-just transitions outcomes framework

ARP

Just transition processes address sustainable development in supporting climate action and a more socially equitable distribution of risks and benefits. Justice and equity must be integral parts of the global transition toward low-carbon emissions.

This report analyses the role of gender justice in climate policies and delves into the nexus between just transitions and gender ambition to better understand the level of gender ambition in existing policies and provide recommendations on the Gender-Just Transitions Outcomes Framework, a tool developed by the GGKP Gender Expert Group to enhance the identification and implementation of gender equality outcomes in just transition initiatives.

The framework is specifically applied to public policy and select project-level case studies, including Lao PDR, Burkina Faso, Saint Lucia and Colombia. Following the findings are recommendations for realizing transformative ambitions for gender equality in just transitions.

The report was developed as part of a research collaboration between the GGKP Gender Expert Group and the Geneva Graduate Institute (IHEID) Applied Research Programme.
