Renewable energy and energy efficiency projects can play an important role in providing access to energy for the approximately 1.2 billion people worldwide who do not have access to electricity or liquid fuels. While these projects have the potential for broad and far-reaching benefits, they are found to be more effective when gender equality is taken into account.
This report, published by Climate Investment Funds (CIF), explores the gender issues in the renewable energy project sector. It highlights the benefits gender-mainstreaming can bring to communities, and provides key guidance on how to implement gender responsiveness in project management.
The report includes case studies from India, Lao PDR, Ghana and Papua New Guinea among others.
