From green to clean to eco-social: how to put wellbeing back onto the EU’s sustainability agenda

Wel-lbeing has long been a cornerstone of the European project and, since the Green Deal and the Just Transition Mechanism, has also been central to the EU's sustainability agenda.

This policy brief examines how the Clean Industrial Deal frames well-being compared with the Green Deal. While there is continuity in areas such as re-skilling workers, the focus has narrowed to jobs as a driver of industrial competitiveness and economic growth.

Less attention is given to protecting people from the wider social impacts of the transition, while existing inequalities and the need for systemic change are largely overlooked.
