Greening the Implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement

Greening the implementation

The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Agreement has the potential to boost intra-African trade and drive sustainable economic growth, but how can it align with the continent's climate goals?

This study explores the compatibility of implementing the AfCFTA Agreement alongside Africa’s climate commitments, such as Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and carbon pricing strategies, using a detailed economic and environmental modeling approach.

The findings reveal that coordinated emissions reduction across African countries is the most efficient path to achieving climate objectives while supporting trade and development.
