This document provides an update on the World Health Assembly intersessional process, which is developing recommendations for the sound management of chemicals and waste beyond 2020. It highlights the health sector’s role in mitigating the impact of chemicals, waste and pollution on human health, emphasizing the need for multisectoral collaboration and evidence-based interventions.

It gives an overview of the Global Framework on Chemicals, highlighting key strategic objectives such as legal frameworks, institutional mechanisms and safer alternatives, and its alignment with the ongoing work of the World Health Organization (WHO). 

It also updates progress on establishing an independent intergovernmental science-policy panel to enhance the global response to environmental and health challenges.
