This report summarizes the Kick-off Meeting for Latin America and the Caribbean: Introduction to the Global NIP Update II Project (GEF ID 11945 and 12123), held on 3 September 2026.
The meeting introduced country representatives to the project’s objectives, operational components and executing agencies, as well as key knowledge products and tools developed under the first phase of the Global NIP Update project (GEF 10785), including its knowledge-sharing platform and NIP Update Community of Practice.
Through interactive live surveys, participating countries identified initial challenges and priorities to inform project planning and targeted technical assistance. Best practices and lessons learned from the previous phase were also shared to support incoming countries.
As part of the GEF-funded, UNEP-led Global Development, Review and Update of National Implementation Plans (NIPs) under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) projects, GGKP is executing the component on Knowledge Management and Information Sharing, focused on disseminating information, managing knowledge and coordinating with the Stockholm Convention Secretariat to provide accessible, integrated tools and resources for all Parties.
