Les Dangers des POPs Dans les Jouets en Tunisie

This report explores the Tunisia toy market in depth, focusing on several crucial aspects. It presents analyses of toxic chemicals classified as POP in 62 toy samples and other substances known to be hazardous to children exposed to and handling toys such as certain heavy metals and phthalates. The global consumption and the associated potential health risks of the substances analysed are detailed.

The institutional and regulatory framework for toy safety in Tunisia is then examined, highlighting the key role of ministries, notably the Ministry of Trade, Health and Environment, in monitoring and enforcing safety standards. The report also explores the toy distribution chain, from manufacturing to sale to consumers, and highlights the importance of effective collaboration to ensure toy compliance with safety standards, minimising related risks to harmful substances.

The toy trade is at the heart of the analysis, with an examination of customs codes, imported and exported volumes, as well as the countries of origin of imported toys. The report identifies challenges such as data asymmetry and the presence of parallel markets.
