This report provides a comprehensive overview of the Life Cycle Initiative's activities, milestones achieved in 2023 and outlook for 2024. It highlights the progress of projects that continue to deepen impact and provide decision-makers from governments and businesses with science-based information that enables sustainable development pathways.
Significant milestones were achieved during 2023 for ongoing initiatives: GLAD hit the 100,000 life cycle assessment (LCA) datasets connected milestone, concluded the publication of the Guidance on GLAD’s Metadata Descriptors, and implemented improvement of the Lavoisier conversion tool. New initiatives were also launched, including the Biogenic Carbon Project to develop harmonized technical guidance to consider biogenic carbon in LCA.
Hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Life Cycle Initiative provides a global forum to ensure a science-based, consensus-building process to support decisions and policies towards the shared vision of sustainability as a public good.
