G20 countries, responsible for a significant portion of global plastic production and consumption, are uniquely positioned to drive the transition toward more sustainable plastic management.
This report reviews literature and policy documents on extended producer responsibility (EPR) and related measures, mapping 100 sources from G20 countries published between 2017 and 2023 to assess how EPR can be strengthened to reduce marine plastic litter.
The findings recommend stronger laws, market incentives, better waste management and coordinated EPR strategies from global to local levels.
