This report summarizes the roundtable on National Coordination Mechanisms for Robust NIP Implementation. It focused on how National Coordination Mechanisms (NCMs) can underpin robust implementation of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) by supporting throughout the National Implementation Plan (NIP) lifecycle, from preparation and consultation through review, endorsement, submission and reporting.
Building on project guidance for setting up national mechanisms for NIP review, update and reporting, countries from different regions shared practical experiences on how their NCMs were established, which institutions were involved, and how roles and responsibilities were distributed to enable cross-sectoral collaboration, improve data access and sustain implementation capacity. The session featured interventions from UNEP’s Knowledge and Risk Unit and national representatives from Serbia, North Macedonia, Senegal and the Maldives.
As part of the GEF-funded and UNEP-led “Global Development, Review and Update of NIPs under the Stockholm Convention on POPs” project, the Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP) is executing Component 4, focused on disseminating information, managing knowledge and coordinating with the Stockholm Convention Secretariat to provide accessible, integrated tools and resources for all Parties.
