Webinar Report_Africa POPs research roundtable

This report summarizes the regional roundtable National Implementation Plans: Research needs and opportunities in Africa, which brought together African Parties to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, POPs researchers, regional centres and laboratories to address research and capacity gaps in POPs monitoring across Africa.

Participants focused on building sustainable national monitoring systems, aligning technical work with institutional mandates and strengthening regional knowledge networks. Speakers highlighted lessons from analytical infrastructure development, bio-based alternatives and long-term monitoring, underscoring the need for strong data and sustained international cooperation for effective NIP implementation.

As part of the GEF-funded and UNEP-led “Global Development, Review and Update of NIPs under the Stockholm Convention on POPs” project, the Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP) is executing Component 4, focused on disseminating information, managing knowledge and coordinating with the Stockholm Convention Secretariat to provide accessible, integrated tools and resources for all Parties.
