Nature-based solutions (NbS) can play an important role in building community resilience and mitigating impacts of climate change, especially in communities in sub-Saharan Africa that experience some of the most intense impacts from climate change.
This report introduces a methodology used to create a region-wide dataset of projects that have implemented NbS for climate- and water-resilience objectives in two multilateral development bank portfolios.
The outlined projects show how NbS can be utilized to address urgent challenges faced by communities in the region and the co-benefits they are generating. While the document shows that multilateral development banks have a history of funding NbS projects, it also indicates that more scaled-up applications are needed to achieve a resilient future.
