Political economy is a powerful tool that would help countries to understand the process of the transition, including the gaps between traditional politics, economy, and environmental policies. It is a continuous process that countries need to adopt in the implementation strategies.

This study is based on a desk review, inlcuding country studies conducted in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Gabon, Mozambique, and Tunisia on green economy policies and structural transformation. Various studies by UNEP on green economy assessments were also reviewed.

This report provides various reviews of the state of green economy in Africa with a focus on identifying key sectors of the transition and presents a set of discussions on the political economy issues that various countries deal with when creating their strategies. In addition, it presents an examination of stakeholders’ operations in the green economy and provides insights into a system for sustaining the transition and transforming institutions for green transitions.
