Powering Agrifood Systems: Review of enabling policies in Kenya, Uganda, and India

Integrating electricity into agrifood systems can boost crop cultivation, value addition and income generation while reducing food loss during processing, storage and transport.

This study reviews 100 national policies, programmes and regulations from Kenya, Uganda and India to assess how electricity is integrated into agrifood strategies, particularly in areas where mechanization is most critical.

The analysis focuses on infrastructure for water access, storage, postharvest handling and processing in agriculture, dairy and fisheries, examining whether policies mention, adopt, budget for, or integrate electricity needs.
