Most green growth efforts to date have placed the economy and environment front and centre. Yet for green growth to really fulfil its promise, it also needs to focus on people — to tackle the poverty, inequality and exclusion that constrain both growth and environmental sustainability, to realize women and men’s aspirations, and to gain broad societal support.
This paper focuses on inclusion and poverty reduction, rather than all aspects of green growth. It stresses that to be effective, green growth strategies will need to strengthen institutional and governance structures and respond to people’s needs.
Drawing from a number of case studies, the publication provides practical steps for policymakers, business and civil society to work together to deliver inclusive green growth.
