Regional Workshop for Latin America and the Caribbean: Mainstreaming Gender in National Implementation Plans under the Stockholm Convention

This report summarizes the Regional Workshop for Latin America and the Caribbean: Mainstreaming Gender in National Implementation Plans under the Stockholm Convention, which brought together national focal points, technical experts and civil society representatives to advance the integration of gender considerations into chemicals management.

Regional experts highlighted how gender shapes chemical exposure pathways and noted persistent policy gaps, emphasizing the need for sex-disaggregated data, women’s participation in decision-making, and early involvement of gender specialists in NIP processes.

Participants identified practical entry points, including stronger regulations, greater transparency on toxic substances, community advocacy for safer alternatives and more inclusive policy dialogues. The workshop also contributed to the GEF-funded, UNEP-led global NIP update project, for which GGKP leads Component 4 on knowledge management and coordination.
