Financial institutions have a unique power to direct capital in ways that could positively impact nature, yet private investment in biodiversity remains limited.
This report explores the barriers keeping private finance from fully supporting biodiversity. Key challenges include limited expertise, long timelines, unclear regulations and difficulties in measuring impact.
It also lays the foundation for future work on how private commercial capital can be part of the solution, including evidence of momentum through various financial mechanisms such as bonds and biodiversity credits, offering actionable insights for policymakers, bankers, insurers and investors.
