Tackling climate change and achieving sustainable development are inextricably linked and complement each other. This is particularly evident in the Asia region, which is home to a vast majority of the global poor, faces increasing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from rapid growth, and has high vulnerability to climate change.
This report explores the linkages of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and captures if these linkages are evident in countries’ NDCs. It takes an in-depth look at the NDCs of ten Asian countries: Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Maldives, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and Vietnam. The research offers the first essential step in further strengthening institutional linkages at multiple governance levels for achieving SDGs and NDCs simultaneously and efficiently.
