Plastic pollution is one of today's major environmental challenges. Rising levels of plastics are accumulating in the environment, with the flow of plastic into the ocean projected to almost triple by 2040. This trend is causing worldwide environmental and health impacts.
This report illustrates the role of sustainable consumption and production in systemically addressing plastic pollution and recommends actions that governments, business and individuals can take to facilitate upstream and systemic solutions to address plastic pollution.
It specifically focuses on guidance around the use and consumption of plastic packaging -- the main application of plastics and a major source of marine litter. It also shows how a multi-stakeholder network can efficiently mobilize to deliver concrete outputs.
