This report investigates the use of nonylphenol (NP) and nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEOs) in India’s textile sector, tracing their release during manufacturing, washing and disposal. It shows how these chemicals persist, degrade into toxic compounds and contaminate water bodies, threatening ecosystems and human health in textile-producing regions.
It calls for urgent action to phase out NP and NPEOs in line with Stockholm Convention restrictions, supported by stricter regulation, safer alternatives and stronger monitoring.
The report is directed to Stockholm Convention focal points, national officials, chemicals and waste experts, coordinating bodies, regional centres and other stakeholders.
