S+50 Report_SEI

The world is facing a deep security crisis, with mounting international tensions. The pandemic has reversed progress in sustainable development, and more severe planetary shocks will unfold with growing environmental stress. These challenges are compounded by a shifting landscape of global security and geopolitics, which will worsen human insecurity.

This report was written to provide a scientific basis for the UN international meeting ‘Stockholm+50: a healthy planet for the prosperity of all – our responsibility, our opportunity’, to be held in Stockholm on 2–3 June 2022.

It is intended to stimulate an informed debate on why change towards a sustainable future is not happening at pace with the challenges humans and the planet face, and guide leaders to actions they can take now, informed by relevant science.
