There has been a shift in recent years within gender mainstreaming to better elaborate and recognize that gender interacts with other forms of inequality.
This report evaluates the current state of intersectional approaches to gender mainstreaming in adaptation-relevant interventions. Several case studies from development and humanitarian organizations are used to illustrate different intersectional approaches to gender mainstreaming that have been introduced, are currently being used, or could be applied.
The findings highlight how intersectionality is used effectively at numerous scales of intervention, including household and community levels. The report canvasses various sectors – such as agriculture, food security, water management and disaster risk reduction – to identify the rippling effects they have on each other.
