Sustainable Public Procurement: 2022 Global Review (Parts I and II)

This UNEP report provides important insight into the current state of sustainable procurement across national governments, private enterprise and intergovernmental organizations worldwide. The aim is to track global progress in sustainable procurement over the last five years, deepening the collective understanding of the current barriers, needs, opportunities and innovations in this important area.

Part 1 discusses the status quo and progress in national governments, while Part 2 analyses the diffusion of sustainable procurement to the private sector, international organizations and the role of supporting entities.

The analysis was conducted in 2021 and is based on data from sustainable procurement activities in 314 organizations and 45 national governments. It also offers relevant recommendations for policymakers to make sustainable procurement a common practice in organizations and governments.
