Throwaway Packaging, Forever Chemicals: European wide survey of PFAS in disposable food packaging and tableware

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are often referred to as “forever chemicals” due to their persistence in the environment,

This report is based on a European study, carried out by eight civil society organizations, into the presence of PFAS in paper, board, and molded plant fiber disposable food packaging and tableware, sold in six European countries: The Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

The study underscores the widespread contamination of disposable food packaging and tableware in Europe with PFAS, highlighting their presence in items like fast-food wrappers and biodegradable bowls.
