Unlock. Unleash: Realizing forest potential requires tripling investments in forests by 2030

UNEP Unlock forests cover

This report provides a global snapshot of public and private forest finance in 2023 and compares current flows with what is needed to unlock forests’ potential to address climate change, biodiversity loss and land degradation.

It integrates major private finance channels and nature-related asset classes, including certified commodity supply chains, impact investing, carbon and biodiversity markets, philanthropy and private capital mobilized through public finance.

The report finds forests remain severely underfunded: annual investment must rise from $84 billion in 2023 to $300 billion by 2030 and $498 billion by 2050, leaving an annual financing gap of roughly $216 billion.
