Value Chain Analysis: Tomato & Cucumber (Цепочка создания ценности: Помидор и Огурец )

cucumber-tomato

This insight brief describes the current flow of products and stakeholders involved in the tomato and cucumber value chain in Karakalpakstan. It also presents the constraints and opportunities to be considered by regulators, technical advisory service providers and potential investors in order to support the development and improvement of the value chain.

Currently, the value chain of tomato and cucumber in Karakalpakstan mostly ends with the commercialization of low-quality fresh products, with the majority of transactions happening between farmers and local final consumers.

Along the value chain, limited access to quality inputs and services, lack of specialized knowledge and machinery, lack of networking between stakeholders and lack of exposure to market opportunities are key constraints that limit its development and growth. Product quality improvement and connectivity between agents are key cornerstones needed to access national and international market opportunities.
