This report provides an overview of waste incineration practices and their environmental impacts. It outlines how incineration can reduce waste volume and recover energy, but also generates emissions, including dioxins, furans and other pollutants of concern that negatively affects human health.

It also highlights the role of policy and regulation in ensuring that incineration is managed responsibly, in line with international commitments on chemicals and waste.

The report is aimed at Stockholm Convention focal points, national officials, experts, coordinating bodies, regional centres and other stakeholders engaged in chemicals and waste management.
