Latin America and the Caribbean continues to be the most unequal region in the world and has been the region whose development has been most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. In this context of deepening poverty and inequality, the gender-differentiated impacts of climate change illustrate the structural challenges of gender inequality.
The purpose of this document and its recommendations is to advance towards the achievement of gender equality and sustainable development in the region, but also to offer innovative and transformative contributions from Latin America and the Caribbean, placing gender equality and women’s autonomy at the centre of the process.
This guidance falls under the preparation for the sixty-sixth session of the Commission on the Status of Women, held in March 2022, with the priority theme “Achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls in the context of climate change, environmental and disaster risk reduction policies and programmes”.
