The Global Green Economy Index (GGEI) provides a ranking of how 60 countries and 70 cities perform in the global green economy and how expert practitioners perceive this performance. The GGEI performance index uses quantitative and qualitative indicators to measure how well each country performs on four key dimensions: leadership & climate change, efficiency sectors, markets & investment and environment & natural capital. Then, the GGEI perception survey collects assessments from expert practitioners on these same four dimensions.
First published in 2010, this new edition of the GGEI presents broader sector coverage, more focus on environmental performance and enhanced data collection and processing methods. It highlights that Germany and the Nordic states perform at the top the list; many fast growing economies, on the contrary, perform poorly; in addition, while some of the developed countries including Japan and the United States have perceptions of their green economic performance dramatically exceed their actual performance, some European nations reveal performance scores that significantly exceed their perception scores, suggesting a need for better strategic communications and information exchange.
